Did you know that you are a spirit, you have a soul, and you live in a body? Being Totally Fit means our spirit is strong, our mind has the right attitude, and our body is in its rightful place, BELOW the other two! Galatians 5:22 tells us that one of the fruits of the Spirit is self control. That means that if you have the Holy Spirit, you have self control!

Think of self control as a muscle you have. Some of our muscles are weak because we don't use them enough. We might not even know we have them. Your "self control muscle" may be really weak right now. But if you exercise it, just like any other muscle, it will get stronger and easier to use. Start exercising a little self control just like you'd exercise your biceps, and you'll be shocked at how quickly your self control will grow!

How can you exercise self control? Try walking 30 minutes every day this week. And try avoiding sugar when you eat. You can do this, because you HAVE self control as fruit of God's Spirit who lives in you if you are a Christian. It might be hard a first. That muscle might be a little sore when you first use it! But keep working it, and it will get easier and easier, and you'll find joy in having a little control over your flesh.
